This is totally for my own use, and might not interest anyone else, so cut.

Remember the first round? I'm not going to reread that just yet, because I'm afraid it might confuse me, but here's the answer I was looking for.
Tropes are motifs on a cultural level. If a motif is something that comes up several times in a text, then a trope is a motif that comes up in several texts.

And what "my author" is doing is trying to reinvent some tropes. For instance, instead of the "weak woman" she tries to invent the trope of "the woman role model", who is hard working, independent and helps others. Through telling a number of tightly packaged stories with the same main ingredients she tries to make them part of the reader's cultural baggage, if I may say so.

Yes! I think this is an excellent and nicely concise description of what a trope is. :)
