five questions
Oct. 5th, 2018 01:37 pmI got these five questions from
eller - thank you! I really enjoyed answering them!
1. How many languages do you speak?
I usually reply to this "only five": this does sound like false modesty, but it isn't. Other people have their own accomplishments: they draw, do cross stitch, know about stones and rocks, mathematics, biology and academic illustrations. With me - it's mainly languages. So, considering this belongs to my main accomplishments in life, five is not much. Still, the five I do speak I speak by now quite decently. And I have the rest of my life to add a few! (Really, it is ridiculous how much joy it gives me, I am looking forward to being old, sitting in my chair and learning them one after another!)
2. What's the next book you plan to read, and why?
I'd love to answer this one, but I don't have a plan for the next book. I'll probably suffer once again, trying to figure out, what would suit me right now. Suggestions are always welcome!
But to say something, I'll say that I in any case plan to read at some point The Ministry of Utmost Happiness by Arundhati Roy - even though I haven't heard anything about it after the outcry "OMG, Arundhati Roy's new book is out!" Still, I really loved God of Small Things, so I plan to give this one a try, too.
I also plan to read the new Cormoran Strike novel, because I read everything Rowling writes, and because, personally, I found a problem in the last one, and I am curious, whether and how she solved it in the new novel.
3. If you had to paint your room in a color that's not white, which one would it be?
In our place, all parallel walls are painted orange, and the perpendicular ones are white. So, assuming orange can stay, the white ones I'd paint light blue. Which, not quite incidentally, makes it exactly the two colors our house is wearing on the outside.
4. Is there something you've never written about, but would like to?
If there wasn't the word "about", it would be such an easy question to answer! About? I think... well, I think I do not think about writing as being about something or... I mean, I have my favorite settings... like a train or any kind of journey... or I love buildings and somehow weaving them into a story... but it's never been about something for me... Hm! Maybe, I should say that I'd like to try and write something _about_ something. I don't seem to have done that before. (Incidentally, you might just have helped me discover one of my main problems with writing!)
5. What's your favorite beverage?
I'm surprised to realize that it's mineral water with light bubbles. Not that I don't drink alcohol. But the one beverage I can't live without is water (I can stand it without bubbles, too, if I have to). Still, to sound somewhat more grown-up: I really love a good red wine!
clink and cheers!
My favorite drinking exclamation is skol, by he way: I've never been to Scotland, just love the sound of it. What is yours?
Please comment if you'd like me to ask you five questions!

Date: 2018-10-05 02:28 pm (UTC)Here are your questions:
1. Name three (or more, if you can't stop) of your favorite authors with an explanation why you like them.
2. I envy people who can draw (my hands, according to my brother, grow out of my sit-upon;). Do you envy people, who can do something you can't? What is it?
3. How many fountain pens do you have? Which one is your favorite? Why?
4. Did I understand correctly that you write stories/a story? If so, what do you write about? What is the most important thing for you in writing?
5. English isn't your mother tongue, right? What language do you think in? Dream? Talk unconsciously? Feel most comfortable in?

Date: 2018-10-05 04:56 pm (UTC)I've reserved Lethal White from my local library, but I shall have to wait a while - I'm number 40 in the reservation list for 5 copies and there are 82 people after me.
Ah yes, red wine!
And do ask me five questions - I'm looking for something to blog about.

Date: 2018-10-06 11:07 am (UTC)I'm sure you will read Lethal White way before I will (I haven't even started looking for it yet). Do share your impressions, when you do!
And here are your questions. I am looking forward to reading the replies!
1. Why do you write? What does writing give you? Is it just pastime for you or do you have a specific goal?
2. You write both fanfiction and original stories, right? How are they different for you?
3. What is your favorite British city/town? Why?
4. If you had 10 years of life to spare, to do anything you wanted, without consequences to this life of yours, what would you do?
5. What annoys you and what do you enjoy most in online communication?

Date: 2018-10-07 02:07 pm (UTC)I can understand you wishing to escape labels; that's perfectly reasonable. I was simply curious about the languages, which are a fascinating mixture.

Date: 2018-12-05 07:34 pm (UTC)1. How many languages do you speak? English is the only language I'm fluent in. I can get by in Welsh. I know some French & German.
2. What's the next book you plan to read, and why? Probably Secret Santa by Scarlett Bailey because it's the next in the series I'm currently reading
3. If you had to paint your room in a color that's not white, which one would it be? Our bedroom is actually a lovely warm, sea blue. We have very few white walls in our house
4. Is there something you've never written about, but would like to? There's many things I've never written about, I don't tend to plan my posts, they just happen.
5. What's your favorite beverage? coffee. I'm not sure I can survive without it!

Date: 2018-12-06 12:28 pm (UTC)Is Welsh very different from English? Are there more differences in writing or in speaking? (like, when I read Spanish I understand a lot, but hearing is a totally different thing) Could you give an example?

Date: 2018-12-07 11:23 pm (UTC)Other examples are:
Bore da - good morning.
Prynhawn da - good afternoon.
Noswaith dda - good evening.
Nos da - goodnight.
And then there's our famous place name Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
