I don't usually do this, but sometimes I just read these "Friday-Five" questions and
smallhobbit's answers and I really feel like answering them myself. So - just in order to keep being present -
1. Did you grow up with your parents together as a unit?
No. My father was an abusive alcoholic, and even though I loved him very much (and he loved me), we - mama, brother and I - stopped breathing when he left, just in case he would decide to come back. None of us remembers when exactly he left. It's a family trauma.
2. Did you reach adulthood with four living grandparents?
I wasn't even born with four living grandparents. I never knew either of my grandfathers. My paternal grandfather died when my father was 6. My maternal grandfather died, when my brother (1,5 years older than me) was -2 months. But both of my grandmothers were very much present in my childhood.
3. Is your extended family a close one or not?
No. Friends are my family, friends are very close. Blood relations - I don't know why they should matter, if we have nothing in common and don't interest each other in the least.
4. Does your family have a 'black sheep'?
I'm the black sheep. It was always my goal in life to be different. Since I can remember myself.
5. What is your first memory of a family member that is not your mother(s) or father(s)?
I don't know. But as I said, both my grandmothers were very much present in my childhood. One of my early memories is how we - myself and a few other kids, probably brother and a cousin - stand outside a big wooden gate and eat some kind of cupcakes or muffins (it was called just "cake"). This is all I remember of my paternal grandmother's "previous house", she moved soon after and that second house is the one that I spent a good part of my childhood in. The other grandmother - the one who is Grandma today - spent a lot of time in our apartment. So... I just remember a lot of her presence.
