ayurvedic grapefruit tea
Nov. 5th, 2018 03:25 pmI've just realized that ayurveda - the traditional Indian medicine - is one of my hobbies: I don't know much about it, but I enjoy learning immensely, and same goes for making my favorite recipes and trying out new ones.
It's dark outside today, it has been raining through the night, it certainly plans to start raining again in the next couple of hours and I really feel like a warming ayurvedic drink that will help boost my immune system and withstand colds that really really like spending time with me.
There was this recipe for an ayurvedic grapefruit tea that I really liked, I just tried to find it again, but couldn't. So, here is how a remember it. Let's keep it for future generations! :D
makes 1 liter
juice from 3 small grapefruits (ours are small, almost smaller than an orange)
warm boiled water (not boiling hot, just so that you can comfortably drink it)
a couple of pinches of ground cinnamon
a pinch of ground red chili pepper
one or two pinches of ground dried ginger
honey to taste (be careful: honey looses it's healing properties in boiling water)
1 teaspoon apple vinegar cider
Basically, you just need to mix this together and drink. The fresher your ingredients the better. You can even use fresh ginger, sticks of cinnamon and ground your chili right before you use it, but I'm somewhat against drinks whose preparation takes so much more time than the time you need to drink them. Feel free to adjust quantities: you can take more or less grapefruit juice (just don't make it too sour), same goes for the spices. Drink warm, not hot. And feel those cold viruses running away!
