waiting for autumn
Sep. 20th, 2020 08:56 pmSo,
havocthecat replied to my "shana tova" comment and said that she hasn't seen me in a while, and I was so pleased she noticed that I immediately decided to write this post - the one that was living inside my head since I woke up this morning, and here it is! (And I'll do an actual update in the next post, because I don't want to spoil this one :)
I felt autumn this morning. Our day-temperatures didn't drop below 30 C* for a long time, but this morning I woke up and smelt autumn. Once I was awake enough to reflect upon it, I felt disappointed, because I thought: come on! it was just a dream. no autumn is in sight for you yet, not for another month at least. But then I got up, washed myself, came into the living room, did all the things I do in the morning and I still felt it. The smell of autumn. The air was different. It moved differently. It felt fresh. And the water. I'm telling you, even at noon, my tap water was not hot. Autumn is on its way. Yay! I'm so happy!
My husband believes I can control the weather. He's a mathematician, he does not believe in anything supernatural besides this. When I told him for the second time today that I wished it was autumn, he said that I really need to be careful what I wish for, because if I start wishing for winter, and it comes, he'll blame me. But that's ridiculous. If I could control the weather, it wouldn't be this hot. Not for such a long time. Oh, no. And besides, summer has to be followed by autumn. I wish for... 27 degrees at noon and 20 at night, and a fresh wind. And... one stupid rain? Just one? Can we manage that, please?sorry, let myself go, again
So, while I only hope to be a witch, I am going to do an autumn spell. Starting tomorrow, my coloring will be autumnal. I'm reading Wuthering Heights right now, they're cold enough, though not really autumnal. Do you have autumnal book recs? I'll wear autumnal colors. I'll watch stuff with autumnal atmosphere. And could you send my way anything autumnal that you see and like? Please? Even just autumnal words will do. Leaves, wind, gusts of wind, shivering, cold fingers, the need to have hot tea. Oh, letthere here be autumn!
*now you'll have to google Celsius to Fahrenheit, my dear American friends! :P

Date: 2020-09-21 12:10 am (UTC)Though I won't google, I'll just use the vague approximations that I keep making every time. The vague approximations of conversions are good enough, right? If I have a general idea, I'm happy!

Date: 2020-09-21 03:21 pm (UTC)We won't really get autumn weather here for another month and then it'll last a couple of weeks before going into a very mild winter by my standards.

Date: 2020-09-21 07:51 pm (UTC)That's midsummer weather for those of us in central England! Actually, a minimum of 20 °C is very unusual. A minimum above about 15 °C feels too warm for me if I'm trying to sleep.
Autumn is just getting going here, and the leaves are starting to turn. Today and tomorrow look like being the last warm, sunny days before things change a lot. We have a maximum of 14 °C predicted for Wednesday, which will be quite a shock to the system!
