So. We're teaching on campus again. Which means that I'm commuting again. Which I hate, by the way, and which probably - together with the fact that I feel so unappreciated - will be the reason for me quitting at some point, or at least only agreeing to stay for a lot more money. But let's not jump ahead. I'm here to share a commuting grievance.

It takes me three hours to get from home to university. Almost two of them I spend on one bus. I like sitting in the front. I like not seeing many people around me. I like to be the first to get out of the bus. But bus drivers like to listen to the radio.

Oh. Let me just stop here for a second to exclaim: Oh! It's raining! Hurray to the beginning of the rainy season!

What was I saying? Oh yeah, the radio. I hate the radio, not only do they have ads on it, they also play the worst kind of music - at least, for me, at least the ones our bus drivers listen to. So some time ago I came up with this idea to listen to "music for reading/study". You know those playlists people put on YouTube? Ambience music, no words, sometimes there's also the sound of rain or the creaking of an old phonograph record... Stuff like that. It's really nice, because it doesn't interfere with my concentration (I work on those buses) and screens me from the radio, the bus noises, the people on the bus.

But you know what annoys me? A lot of these playlists repeat the same pieces over and over! Do they expect people not to be able to tell? Why not leave it up to me to decide whether I want to play a playlist again? I seriously would play some of those lists again, out of my own volition, that is, but when they keep repeating the same tracks, I just want to open a YouTube channel to start leaving comments like "don't take me for an idiot!" They put up eight hours of relaxing autumn sounds, and it's clear to me that probably no one will sit down and put together eight hours of original music pieces that don't repeat themselves. I realize that and I pick the one-two-three hour long ones. And how annoyed do you think I am, when in a three hours long playlist there are about 5 pieces altogether and they just keep repeating themselves over and over. Or, like, three days ago? I picked a one hour long playlist. And after 30 minutes it just started from the beginning! I'm so annoyed about this by now, I want to just look for people/channels that don't do that - instead of looking for "relaxing music", "music for concentration", "autumn music" or whatever. Just give me some playlists where the pieces don't keep repeating. I don't even care whether it's classical, jazz or new age. Just don't pretend to be something you're not. I hate that. So. Any suggestions? I'd be very!

Three hours commute!!! No wonder you hate it! I thought 1 1/2 hours was bad enough.
I usually listen to podcasts or music that I already have on my device, I don't use playlists.

High-frequency rotation playlists suck, no doubt about it. I pretty much don't listen to the radio anymore except for National Public Radio: they have a classical channel in Phoenix that I really enjoy, and I like their news channels.

Yeah, that commute would be rough. Mine is about half an hour, that's enough for me. It's always a bit concerning in the winter when there may be a storm in the area and there's the possibility that the road up the mountain to home may be closed.
